Unprecedented E-Commerce (03/15/05 9:45 AM PST)
I placed an online order for some security camera equipment on Saturday night, including a couple spools of coax cable and other supplies. When the order was complete, I noticed the address of the company was in Hacienda Heights, about 18 miles from here. Good, I thought, it will arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. This morning, I got a call from a guy who said my order was ready. He was coming to downtown today and wondered if I wanted him to drop the order off. So he's going to be here in a couple hours. Hopefully the parking won't be too bad. Anyway, I thought that was worth sharing, at least as an example of unusual customer service...!

My alternator took a dive yesterday. Attosa was stuck for like 2.5 hours in the dark waiting for a tow truck. She was driving my car because hers has a flat, so I was unable to do too much. When she did finally get a tow, she had it taken to a service station near here. They had it fixed shortly after noon. The replacement alternator was fairly high-priced, but the labor ran only about $42. The grand total was something like $290. The car drives much stronger now though, so I'm happy.

SEMA Show (Specialty Equipment Market Association) - April 3, 2004
Was invited to go to the SEMA show this weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Basically it is a riceboy car convention. Had fun photographing all the tricked out cars and of course all the show bunnies (is that really why I went?). Had to take pictures of all the RX-7's I saw, as well as a couple of Shaq's rides. Enjoy! (Comment if ya got 'em.)

(I took 117 photos and this is about half of them. I batch converted the car pictures, so they may not be up to my normal image quality standards. The girls got the Photoshop treatment...:)

My printer died somehow, while it was sitting idle, without paper. Seems strange. It worked fine, and now it won't feed paper. Attosa claims she can fix it. I'll let her try, but I'm getting anxious to print things out here. Got a big ream of paper at Fry's, too. Picked up a few other things while I was there: 3 Björk DVDs (and only after opening them did I realize she's got a ton of others available too), Sade LoversLive DVD (awesome! Sade is one of my favorites and the quality of the a/v on this DVD is tops!), Lost in Translation DVD, and a really cheap + cool cordless phone to replace all my previous crap phones (the last one, that had no mute feature, was the last straw). Oh, and a Plantronics headset. I'm all set to teleconference now. If you're in search of a new phone, check these out...look at all those features. Big orange boxes, you can't miss em!

Today I bought Flash MX Professional 2004 Upgrade. What a mouthful! I managed to lose my Flash MX upgrade CD and reg code in the move (or haven't yet located it). Since I have Flash MX installed under Win2k, and it's the only thing keeping me booting into 2000, I wanted to buy the upgrade to install under XP. I called up their registration and licencing line to ask if I could get the reg code out of my installed copy and that would be enough for the upgrade. The lady was very nice, she said it would work. She even gave me my reg code over the phone since they automatically register you when you buy a product from their store. Very nice! Also, after the call she had sent it to me in email too. I suppose at that rate I might have been able to get a replacement install disc for MX, but I guess the upgrade is probably something I'd need to do eventually anyway. So $300 and 47mb download later, I'm up and running with Flash MX Professional 2004 under WinXP. Yay!

Have you been a victim of identity theft? We have. Last year a charge for some porn site showed up on my bank card. I disputed the charge, waited for a new card to arrive in the mail, and so far so good. After our recent move, Discover sent my fiance a new card, at the old address (after she had changed it with them). Someone apparently got the card, made several charges on it (with phone numbers not matching that on the account) and then the dumbass was stupid enough to do an $8000 balance transfer to that card! Discover called her and was like "we thought it was strange that these recent charges and the balance transfer didn't match anything on the account"... which begs the question, well why the hell did you authorize any of it? In my opinion, the best part about it is the balance transfer.. Do you think it will be hard to track that down, or the phone numbers used to make the fraudulent charges? Talk about the world's stupidest criminals...

"We live in a country where the on-again, off-again J. Lo-Ben nuptials, now mercifully as kaput as "Gigli," got more attention than the Mideast road map. The reality TV craze, from "Joe Millionaire" to "Average Joe," works nightly to recalibrate the definition of marriage into a glitzy form of legalized prostitution. Britney Spears signs on to a 55-hour Vegas marriage "just for the hell of it," and someone else sells pictures of the festivities, including one of the groom sticking his hand down her pants, for up to $100,000 to supermarket tabloids. After the marriage was annulled, Ms. Spears told MTV, "I do believe in the sanctity of marriage, I totally do."
